PMB offers masterbatch solution to Bacterial Growth
Antimicrobial masterbatch developed for plastic chair manufacturer
Leading masterbatch manufacturer, PMB (Performance Masterbatches) has joined forces with SteriTouch Ltd to develop an antimicrobial masterbatch for use in Origin Furniture's 'POP' range of polypropylene chairs, designed for the contract, education and residential markets.
The SteriTouch masterbatch provides excellent antimicrobial protection against bacterial contamination and is particularly effective against bacteria, such as MRSA, E. Coli and Salmonella. Utilising the sterilising properties of silver, SteriTouch provides protection for the lifetime of the product and can be added to natural polymer at normal let down rates or combined with a colourant masterbatch.
Extensive testing of the SteriTouch masterbatch was conducted by an independent laboratory to ensure a high level of performance was achieved. Results showed that there was up to a 99.9 per cent reduction in the population of bacteria in tests against both MRSA and E. Coli within 24 hours.
Nick Pearson, Origin Furniture Managing Director said: "The education sector is a key market for the 'POP' chair but it is also an area where bacteria are more prevalent. Working with PMB and SteriTouch we were able to address this problem by incorporating antibacterial protection into the chairs, whilst still achieving the perfect colour match and colour distribution every time."
Colour dispersion in large mouldings such as chairs can sometimes prove problematic, but PMB's vast experience ensured excellent colour dispersion and opacity was attained. The 'POP' chair is available in a large selection of colours, including red, blue, lime and orange, which were all matched accurately by PMB.
Founded in 1974, PMB (Performance Masterbatches), based in Brynmawr, South Wales, is one of the UK's leading suppliers of masterbatch. Using the latest colour design and matching technology to deliver fast, accurate colour solutions, the company supplies plastics processors, contract moulders and end users, including many household name companies.
